Publishing Ireland Initiative Trending on IWD21
March 8th was International Women’s Day, an important day that commemorates the cultural, political and socio-economic achievements of women throughout the world.
To honour this important day Publishing Ireland teamed up with Dublin Book Festival to celebrate some of the great literary achievements of women, and in particular Irish-published women, with #HerShelf. We sent out a challenge to all Publishing Ireland members and fans on social media encouraging them to get involved by taking a photo of the books on their shelves written by women and to use the hashtag #HerShelf when posting.
The response was brilliant with posts from publishers, authors, journalists and of course the many fans of Irish published women and books. Our newsfeeds began to fill with photos of books and conversations began around them. In no time all #HerShelf was trending on Twitter which was an achievement in itself considering it was such a busy news day. We were delighted with this reaction and hope to see much more of this kind of thing in the future and it goes without saying that the fact that this was trending is just proof of the wealth of talent we have here amongst female authors and our publishers.
